Explore Ezo with lo-fi beats inspired by Shinichirō Watanabe’s Samurai Champloo in Sucker Punch’s newest open-world title.
Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yōtei is out now, and if you haven’t caught the recent accolades trailer, it’s very good. Like Ghost of Tsushima, it features Kurosawa Mode with black and white visuals, film grain, and Japanese dialogue (with subtitles). However, there are other options, like Watanabe Mode.
What exactly does it offer? Relaxing, lo-fi beats as you wander through Ezo, turning Atsu’s burning quest for vengeance into one with infinitely more vibes. The mode is inspired by director Shinichirō Watanabe’s Samurai Champloo, an anime series acclaimed for its unique style and soundtrack.
Some may consider it a gimmick, but if you’re looking to decompress, it’s a pretty compelling option. For those who want a much dirtier and bloodier experience, there’s Miike Mode, in honor of film director Takashi Miike (13 Assassins).
Ghost of Yōtei is available for $69.99 on PS5. Check out our review to learn more about the experience, from the compelling combat and incredible world design to the excellent characterization.
