However, the team did “see some issues with the lack of memory” in the Xbox version compared to other platforms, per Naoki Hamaguchi.

Development continues on the finale of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, which is confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, director Naoki Hamaguchi isn’t worried about multiplatform development, even though “the lack of memory” with the Xbox version did present “some issues.”

Speaking to Easy Allies, Hamaguchi said that the third entry in the trilogy has “designated teams working on each platform so that our multiplatform approach won’t impact the development whatsoever.” The overall development is going “very smoothly” (which also applies to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Rebirth), but “For the Xbox version, like many other publishers, I think we did see some issues with the lack of memory compared with other platforms.”

Of course, he didn’t outright specify whether this was due to the Xbox Series S. Parity with the console has caused issues for other titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, which eventually launched without split-screen co-op on the console, and Black Myth: Wukong.

As for the Switch 2 versions, “We actually have the main dev team working really hard on this. As a result, I think we’re pretty confident with the end product. We did get some great reviews for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, so I hope the fans look forward to it.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 doesn’t have a release date, but according to creative director Tetsuya Nomura, the announcement timing has “already been decided,” and Square Enix is sticking to the schedule. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade launches on January 22nd, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. There’s currently no release window for Rebirth, so stay tuned for updates.
