‘Deus Ex’ to Get PS5 HD Remake: Set for Release Next Year

杀出重围

Deus Ex is a first-person shooter game developed by Eidos Interactive. It was released for PC and PS2 platforms in 2000.

During Sony’s State of Play presentation held this morning, the official team confirmed that an HD remastered version of Deus Ex for PS5 will be launched, with a scheduled release date of February 5, 2026.

The game received widespread acclaim in the year of its release. It once ranked first in the “Top 100 Computer Games” selected by PC Gamer and was voted “the Greatest Computer Game of All Time” by readers of the British magazine PC Zone.

Set in a dystopian world in 2052, the game allows players to take on the role of JC Denton, a new agent of the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO). Players fight against terrorist forces in the chaotic world. As the story progresses, Denton gradually gets involved in a far-reaching conspiracy and interacts with various organizations such as Majestic 12 and the Illuminati.

Proper Nouns Consistency

The game title “杀出重围” adheres to the globally recognized official English name Deus Ex, maintaining consistency with the previous translation and industry conventions.

“索尼 State of Play 发布会” is translated as “Sony’s State of Play presentation” – “State of Play” is Sony’s official event name, so it is retained in its original form, and “发布会” is rendered as “presentation” which is more in line with the terminology of international game industry events.

“联合国反恐联盟” is translated as “United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO)”. The full name is given first for clarity, followed by the official abbreviation “UNATCO” (a core organizational term in the Deus Ex series), ensuring familiarity for fans of the franchise.

Terminology Accuracy

“高清复刻版(remastered)” is translated as “HD remastered version”. Since the original text already provides the English term “remastered”, it is directly integrated into the translation to accurately convey the nature of the game version (focusing on high-definition optimization rather than a complete remake, differing from “remake” used in the previous context).

“反乌托邦世界” is translated as “dystopian world”, the standard academic and literary term for a “negative utopian society”, which accurately reflects the dark, chaotic world setting of the game.

Sentence Structure Adaptation

For the sentence “于 2000 年登陆 PC 与 PS2 平台”, the passive voice “was released for PC and PS2 platforms in 2000” is used. This follows the common expression habit in English game news when describing the release of works and platforms, avoiding the awkwardness of literal translation of “登陆” (land).

The long sentence about the game background is split into multiple short sentences in English (e.g., separating the setting introduction, player role, core gameplay, and plot development). This improves readability, as English tends to avoid overly lengthy complex sentences compared to Chinese.
