After BLG secured their spot in the S15 World Championship last week, the number of confirmed teams for the 2025 Global Finals has reached 11 out of a total of 17. This means only six tickets to the World Championship remain undecided. In this week’s LCK Playoffs Losers’ Bracket match, the LCK will determine the owner of the last remaining ticket.
DK were previously chosen by T1 as their opponents, and after a full BO5 series, they unfortunately lost. In the first round of the Losers’ Bracket, they defeated BFX 3-1, and now they face T1 once again. This time, they will fight a life-or-death battle with T1 — the winner takes the ticket, while the loser ends their 2025 season.
This match has been one of the most highly anticipated in recent times, not only because DK have quickly adjusted their form and are definitely capable of challenging T1, but also because T1, the back-to-back World Champions, have been pushed into such a precarious situation in the league. It’s even possible that they might fail to qualify for this year’s World Championship, which would have been unimaginable last year.
In this match against DK, T1 started with a bit of “self-sabotage” in the first game. Not擅长 with the Ziggs composition, they forced themselves to pick the champion, only to be completely dominated by Aiming’s Corki in the bot lane. DK ended the game with a 16-6 kill score and an economic advantage of nearly 20,000 gold. In the second game, T1 once again found themselves in an early disadvantage, but after desperately stopping DK’s Dragon Soul push, they seized the opportunity to score a 0-for-4 ace and take the Baron to turn the economy around. However, this momentum was later lost due to poor handling of Urgot, but they managed to stop DK’s Dragon Soul again and secure the second Baron to tie the series.
In the subsequent games, T1 gradually found their rhythm. First, Oner led the team to a crucial match point with a 14-kill Pentakill performance on Pantheon. Then, in the fourth game, they capitalized on BeryL’s Sejuani to set the tempo, with Faker’s Sylas taking over in the mid-game. With T1 establishing a lead of over 10,000 gold, they secured the Dragon Soul and ended the match.
By defeating DK, T1 have earned the last LCK ticket to the 2025 Global Finals. This marks T1’s fifth consecutive appearance at Worlds and Faker’s 10th World Championship appearance in his career — five of which resulted in championships!
For the loser, ShowMaker misses the World Championship for the first time in his career after previously qualifying six times, with a record of one championship, one runner-up, and two quarterfinal finishes.
T1’s qualification is naturally good news for both the LCK and Riot, as it guarantees viewership and excitement. However, it might come as a shock to the LPL, because T1 will now face GEN in the Losers’ Bracket final. The winner will continue their journey with hopes of securing a higher seed, while the loser will be confirmed as the LCK’s fourth seed. Whether it’s T1 or GEN waiting at the entrance to the World Championship Play-in stage, they will undoubtedly pose a major threat.
