China-Japan International Animation Film Festival Announces New “AI Animation” Competition Category!

The organizing committee of the China-Japan International Animation Film Festival (JCIAFF) has announced that the inaugural edition will take place from May 28 to 31, 2026, at multiple venues in Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, including the Kadokawa Musashino Museum, Tokorozawa Sakura Town, T-Joy Tokorozawa Emile Terrace, and other locations.

Submissions for the festival will be accepted from February 2 to March 8, with four competition categories: Feature Animation, Short Animation, Ultra-Short Animation, and AI Animation.

The festival aims to foster international exchange and collaboration within the global animation community, with a particular focus on exploring “new forms of expression in AI-generated animation.” The Ultra-Short Animation category is open to participants of all ages and experience levels. Selected entries will be showcased in a time-limited online screening.

The event will also feature a red carpet ceremony, live voice actor performances, cosplay activities, professional panel discussions, and hands-on family animation workshops.

The festival is supported by the Tokorozawa City Government, Tokorozawa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Japan Tourism Agency, and the Organization for Contents Promotion Overseas, and is organized by the Kadokawa Culture Promotion Foundation.
