Reggie: The host war has ended, and Microsoft’s transformation is a key sign

Former Nintendo President Reggie Fils Aimee made a heavyweight point in a recent interview, stating that the long-standing “console wars” have come to an end.

He pointed out that Microsoft’s strategic shift is a key sign: the launch of core exclusive games such as Halo on PlayStation means that Microsoft has essentially transformed into a “large third-party publisher that produces hardware simultaneously” and no longer directly competes with Sony and Nintendo.

Reggie suggests that Microsoft should consider allowing more Xbox games to be released on the Switch platform in order to reach a wider audience.

He strongly agrees with the host’s concerns about competition driving industry innovation, emphasizing that “competition can bring innovation and ultimately benefit consumers”, and expresses concern about the current slowdown in breakthrough innovation in the industry.

Faced with the new situation, Reggie saw the opportunity for cooperation and particularly praised Nintendo’s development efficiency – major works such as “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” were only half the size of their peers.

As Switch2 values third-party games, he suggests that Nintendo share its optimization experience with third-party developers to help more high-quality games land on new platforms and achieve a win-win situation.
