According to insiders, Valve is developing a new generation of Steam controllers.
The latest leaked AI rendering shows that the new controller will continue the original design language and add a handheld state detection function.
The recent appearance of related SVG icons in the Steam file library indicates that the project may have entered the final product preparation stage.
Based on the existing information, the new controller will be equipped with a hybrid layout of dual touchpad and dual joystick, including two symmetrical joysticks, two touchpad, a cross key, eight main keys, and four auxiliary keys at the top. It is expected to also be equipped with a back key.
Of particular note is its handheld detection function – similar technology was previously used for the Index controller to detect whether the user is holding the device, but it is reported that the new version does not currently include a complete finger tracking function.
The SVG format icon leaked this time is usually used for the finished interface, indicating that the release preparation may have already started.
Obviously, V company is trying to find a balance between the innovation of the first generation design and traditional control habits, creating a compromise solution that can satisfy core users and attract the public.
Valve has not yet made an official response to this news. If the news is true, this will be another important attempt by V company in the field of game input devices since the release of the first generation Steam Controller in 2015.
