Assassin’s Creed: Shadow can reverse the public opinion crisis because Ubisoft no longer focuses on critics

Recently, Ubisoft President Yves Guillemot once again discussed the controversy surrounding the “political correctness” of Assassin’s Creed: Shadow at the Paris Game Week event. He stated that the focus of people’s discussions has shifted from gameplay to ideology, which directly led to the delay of this highly anticipated game.

Guillemot stated that intense criticism from players has forced Ubisoft to reconsider its release plan for Assassin’s Creed Shadow. At that time, the game was originally scheduled to be released in November 2024. Ubisoft ultimately decided to postpone the game until March 2025, stating that this move was to further improve the game. But in fact, they need to boost players’ emotions to ensure a more positive response when the game is released. This is also the real reason for skipping tickets, allowing Ubisoft to share more game content with fans before the game is released, in order to dilute the impression of hatred.

Guillemot said, “We found that by allowing fans to see all the highlights of Assassin’s Creed itself in the game, it helps to combat this hate attack, which is closely related to the impact of the game on players. On the one hand, they want to play the game, especially express themselves in the game, and on the other hand, they want to understand the cultural message conveyed by the game. So our goal is to ensure that fans can discover and defend what they hope to gain from Assassin’s Creed, which quickly eliminates those false arguments

Guillemot also talked about how Ubisoft’s attitude towards this game changed. “In September 2024, we were at a dead end and realized that in order to get out of the predicament, we had to stop focusing on critics and instead motivate supporters. So we no longer tried to win debates, but relied on the core that has supported us for 18 years – the Assassin’s Creed brand

We have shifted from promises to actions, no longer afraid of leaks, but showcasing the game, releasing detailed game content, and letting the experience speak for itself. We open up behind the scenes to creators, media, and players, showcasing the team’s talent and craftsmanship. With the support of our supporters, we regain confidence, dare to stand tall, take risks, speak out, even in the face of the strongest opposition. When Assassin’s Creed Shadow was released, thanks to our fans, momentum finally stood on our side

THE END
